I am fiercely loyal to people and principles, generous of my time and efforts, devoted to my family, love feeding the missionaries in my home (but please bring back all my Tupperware, guys), appreciative of folks from different walks of life (I mean, look around...Heavenly Father is REALLY big on diversity). I am friendly, open minded and interested in understanding the reasons why your mindset and attitudes are different from mine. I will always try to be gentle and honest with you and I make a good friend. I am looking for friendship and companionship, would like to be remarried to a monogamous and 'through thick and thin' partner but not in a hurry just for the sake of getting married. I am not interested in a serious relationship with anyone not an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints--I rarely miss church and if the LDS church doesn't have the same priority for you, we probably don't have the same long term interests. I was once unevenly yoked, do not wish to be again. I would love to have a lifemate with whom to talk, to pray, to play, to cuddle, and to share the ups and downs of everyday life now and then into eternity. I am looking for my best friend.
How I feel about the Church...
I am a convert to the Church and a mother of two (including a son currently serving a mission). The restored gospel of Jesus Christ found me while I was in the process of a painful divorce (is there any other kind?). My testimony describes what happens when you pray for a new church to start over with your children and finally listen when the missionaries continually return. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I prayed for divine direction (smile) but Heavenly Father knew what we needed in order to heal and then begin to thrive. I loved my first calling in the church as ward librarian--it gave me a wonderful opportunity to devour the spiritual feast of church literature instantly at hand. I now teach Sunday School to 14-15 year olds, another opportunity for spiritual growth. This calling is definitely more challenging than teaching students in my occupation as an epidemiologist but it has been a blessing since in order to teach a spiritual truth well you must first learn it well. I have a strong testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's love for each of us, the power of prayer, the healing power of the atonement in our lives. I am thankful for all the blessings in my life.
What I do for fun...
Leisure time for me is in short supply but I am a voracious reader, especially of science fiction (David Weber, Anne McCaffrey, Orson Scott Card, Heinlein, Asimov). A lot of other options rank higher than TV but I occasionally catch an episode of Burn Notice, Psych, House, or a show on Animal Planet. I am a fan of NPR radio shows Click and Clack and A Prairie Home Companion. I love nature, the woods and the beach--I am originally from Florida and a sugar sand beach IS paradise. I love camping, cozy gatherings, stimulating conversations, quiet companionship, silly songs, sun and sand. I grew up in the Deep South with little exposure to other areas of the country but am eager to explore new places. I enjoy football but do not follow a specific team. Through my kids I have come to love the game of soccer in general and the World Cup in particular. One idea of a great vacation involves a meandering road trip with a final destination in mind but enough time to stop along the way to explore places that look interesting or food that looks good. (Warning--I am told that I am "navigationally challenged!") Early last year I adopted 2 rescue dogs; early morning walks with them before getting ready for work is a good way to start the day.
